Dragon boat festival

See the Google logo today? Cute, right?  It's Dragon boat festival today!

I remember my father would take us to see  the exciting dragon boat race. If he didn't want to go out in such hot weather (dragon boat festival represents the official summer arrival, so my parents always told us to put away our winter clothes away after dragon boat festival), we would watch the race on TV.

And of course, food is the most essential element in our festivals. My mother would take us to the traditional night market, which was always hot, humid, fishy, stuffy, noisy, but full of local culture, and buy tons of foods. We would also "bai bai", which means pay honors to the gods. After that, we could start digging in! That was my favorite part! The picture below is "zongzi", rice dumpling. Jonathan and I ate some yesterday. Zongzi has a very interesting history but I'm not going to turn this blog entry into a doctoral dissertation about zongzi.

It used to be such a big big festival, but now it does't seem that way anymore. People don't care about the celebration and the race as much. It's just not as fun now.

We get a day off today, so we took Nathan to a bigger park, which is four subway stops away. It was Nathan's first subway ride.

First time eating out with Nathan!! In the middle of the meal, Nathan woke up and asking for one of us.

Oyster egg omelet

Oyster and pig intestine vermicelli

Nathan spit on my shirt while he was on my shoulder. That explains the stain.

Time to do some chores. Happy dragon boat festival, everyone! :)
